Ruud Lighting: Smart for the Environment; Good for Business

When JohnsonDiversey built a new warehouse facility, the company insisted on green products and materials. As a leading global provider of commercial cleaning and hygiene products, JohnsonDiversey has made a long-term commitment to the environment. The company believes that its environmental leadership is not only the right thing to do, but that it makes good business sense.

These guiding principles were used in the selection of a lighting vendor. JohnsonDiversey and Stephen Perry Smith Architects previously worked with Ruud Lighting because of the Ruud’s dedication to energy savings and engineering expertise. Ruud bid for the job and offered more than a great price; Ruud’s unsurpassed customer support, service, and delivery made the difference and helped win the project.

Saving 70,000 Watts

Seven-hundred linear fluorescent high bay luminaires are used in the new warehouse. The T5HO lamps utilize high-efficiency specular aluminum reflectors for narrow distribution.  Optional 2-level control, configurable with a two-way switch for “all off” or “partial off” dramatically helps to conserve electricity and reduce costs.  For example, since linear fluorescents were selected instead of standard 400W metal halide fixtures, which are typically used in warehouses, the company is saving approximately 100W per fixture. This is a substantial reduction since 700 fixtures were used.

"It only makes sense for us to implement these energy efficient fixtures,” said Stuart Carron, Director Global Facilities, JohnsonDiversey.  “Since JohnsonDiversey is both a consumer and provider, we want to leave as small a carbon footprint as possible.”

Cutting Energy Costs in Half

Interior linear fluorescent high bay fixtures can cut energy costs as much as 50 percent. Standard metal halide fixtures have long been the dominant technology in high bay lighting applications, but that is changing. Developments in fluorescent technology now make it possible to reduce energy costs and improve lighting quality.

“From an energy savings perspective, this was an easy decision,” said Matt Mano of Stephen Perry Smith Architects.  “Our architects worked with Ruud Lighting on several projects, and each time the company has exceeded our expectations and delivered on their promises.”

The JohnsonDiversey warehouse is also LEED certified. For more information about the program, visit LEED’s official web site.

Operating a green business is not only good for the environment; it is good for JohnsonDiversey’s bottom line. Conserving resources and cutting down on waste saves money.  Ruud Lighting’s linear fluorescent high bay lights help JohnsonDiversey achieve this goal.
