The Energy Independence and Security Act, passed in 2007, is an energy policy designed to increase energy-efficiency and the availability of renewable energy. A key provision of the Act sets new efficiency standards for ballasts used in metal halide (MH) lamp fixtures, and goes into effect on January 1, 2009.

are a viable solution. Because fluorescent lamps are more efficient at creating light, they generate less heat saving as much as 50 to 80 percent in energy consumption compared to incandescent lamps and 75 percent versus high-intensity discharge lamps (HID).
