Project Overview: Put the Right Mix of Products to Work for YouIn the spring of 2008, Specialized Electric was contracted to install lighting and electrical for the University of Wisconsin (UW) Medical Foundation, a new construction project in Middleton, Wis. Ken Berg and Dennis Schlimgen, owners of Specialized Electric selected a fixture package from Ruud Lighting that included a mix of products for interior and exterior applications. The main goal of the project was to create an energy-efficient facility that’s a comfortable and safe environment for employees and visitors. The interior lighting package included, Indirect linear fluorescent 54-watt T5HO fixtures with perforated housing and wing end caps. The fixtures also feature a two-level option and 4100K lamps. “T5HO lamps are a more energy-efficient alternative to other types of fixture configurations,” stated Berg. “The two-level option adds additional savings when you’re able to control light levels.” Additionally, uniformity from linear indirect fixtures coupled with less glare, helps to decrease eyestrain, improving employee comfort and productivity. Outside of the facility, easy to install square parking/roadway fixtures with 16-inch housings were installed in the parking lot on 27-foot square steel poles. The fixtures feature Type III asymmetric distribution and provide a wider distribution pattern, ideal for lighting driveways and parking areas. “It was important to make sure the parking lot and its perimeter were well lit to help with safety and visibility of employees and vehicle traffic,” said Berg. Backlight shields were added to help provide greater control of light into targeted areas and away from neighboring properties. “Our customer is very happy,” said Berg. “We definitely created the results they were looking for.” Ruud Customer Profile: Specialized Electric, Verona, Wisconsin It was low price that first attracted Ken Berg and Dennis Schlimgen of Specialized Electric to place his first order with Ruud Lighting more than 20 years ago.
